Accounts Assistant
Edinburgh (hybrid)
About the role
We’re looking for an Accounts Assistant to join our team and take ownership of the day-to-day financial management of a portfolio of clients. This is a hands-on, client-facing role where you’ll be responsible for ensuring our clients receive a seamless, high-quality service. You’ll work closely with our accountants and play an important part in keeping our clients’ finances in order throughout the year.
In this role, you will:
Manage the processing of a portfolio of owner-managed businesses through to Trial Balance stage at each month, quarter or year end;
Prepare and submit self-assessment tax returns;
Process payroll for your clients;
Prepare draft year-end financial statements with support from our accountants;
Process VAT returns and ensure compliance with VAT legislation;
Review, implement and adapt financial systems and controls as the business grows;
Liaise directly with clients, building and maintaining strong, trusted relationships;
Assist with general bookkeeping and day-to-day financial record-keeping;
Support client onboarding and help set new clients up on our systems.
As Framework continues to grow, there will be plenty of opportunities to develop your skills and take on more responsibility.
This is a full-time, permanent position reporting to Framework’s Head of Client Operations.
The kind of person we’re looking for
Skills and experience matter, but so does who you are. We’re a close-knit team and we care about finding someone who shares our values and will thrive in our environment. We’re looking for someone who is:
Dependable and trustworthy: our clients rely on us, and we need someone who takes that responsibility seriously. You follow through on what you say you’ll do.
Genuinely curious: you want to understand the ‘why’ behind the numbers, not just process them. You’re interested in how businesses work and how you can help.
Proactive and self-motivated: you don’t wait to be told what to do. You spot what needs doing and get on with it.
Warm and approachable: our clients are real people running real businesses. You enjoy building relationships and communicating clearly, even when the subject matter is complex.
Detail-obsessed: accuracy isn’t optional in this role. You take pride in getting things right first time.
A team player: you’re happy to muck in, help a colleague, and contribute to making the team better.
Adaptable and open to change: we’re a growing business and things move quickly. You’re comfortable with that and see it as an opportunity rather than a challenge.
Your skills and experience
You’ll have:
Previous experience in a bookkeeping or accounts role;
A solid understanding of basic accounts, VAT, and self-assessment;
Experience processing payroll;
Great attention to detail and a high level of accuracy;
Good communication and interpersonal skills;
A proactive, process-driven approach with strong organisational skills;
Experience using Xero or similar accounting software;
Strong working knowledge of Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets) or MS Office.
Nice to have (but not essential):
Association of Accounting Technicians qualification or equivalent;
Experience working within an accountancy practice;
Familiarity with Xero Payroll specifically.
